Coliseum trail – an awesome hike in Nordegg, Alberta. You can hike this 15km hike in around 5 hours, and it’ll make you sweat with all the switchbacks. I’ll admit, it gets a tad tedious, yet the views through the trees, the cool air, and the freshness of nature are worth it! Check out our photos.
First – know your area, plan ahead, and make sure you have a plan! Also, this isn’t the only trail on Coliseum Mountain, so be sure to follow the signs so you don’t get lost.
It’s a 7.5km hike in, to the peak, then the same back. If you do the loop, you’ll most likely have to scramble on your way down the last 2km or so. Although we haven’t done the full loop, we’ve heard the trail is hardly marked. With Daphne, we played it safe and hiked in and out.
Daphne loves to explore the water, especially on hot days!
Okay – check out these views between the trees. It’s easy to forget how high (99 flights at this point!) you’re climbing.
It’s worth stopping every so often just to check out the view. All the trees can give you the illusion that you’re not making much progress, but you’ll probably be out of water on your way up if it’s hot.
Also – we didn’t make it to the top on this trip. I’ll for sure share photos next time we hike to the top, though!
On the way back down we checked out a few other trails – one in particular because we heard rushing water.
Daphne loves exploring the wilderness – she’s loves adventure!
Well, there you have it – a few photos of our Coliseum trail hike. Pack a picnic, put some drinks on ice, and hike up. I hope you’re having an awesome summer filled with all the fun activities that make you smile.
Thanks for stopping by and I’ll see you again soon. Bye!
