Tutorial: Waterproof Car Toy Bag
Waterproof car toy bag – these little bags are perfect grab all bags for your car – especially since they are waterproof, from the inside! Use them to store toys, as a place for garbage or even use them to just store junk that piles up in the car. You’ll want one for each car, I’m sure of it.
What You Need
- 4 squares that measure 12×12
- 2 pieces of fabric that measure 4×20
- machine
- matching thread
- waxing cotton supplies
First – get all of your squares ready. I made two bags, each with matching insides. You can use all the same fabric or you can use 2 12 inch squares for the inside and then 2 different 12 inch squares for the outside. You pick!
Take the outside fabric and put them right sides together. Serge the sides and then the bottom together. Do the same for the inside fabric.
Next – box off the corners. Measure 4 inches and make a chalk line. Serge that line. Do this on all 4 corners (2 on the inside and 2 on the outside).
Okay – now wax the inside fabric. Follow the waxing cotton tutorial if you haven’t ever waxed cotton before.
Time for the handles. Fold the fabric length wise, right sides together (leave one end open). So, you should have two pieces that measure 20 inches long by 2 wide. Ensure the right side is out.
For this next step I messed up on my first try. As you can see below, that picture is wrong. If you do that, you’ll end up serging your whole handle off. Silly.
So – put the bags right sides together, as shown, yet put the handle inside, between the two fabrics. Serge all around, leaving about 3 inches to turn the bag right side out. Then top stitch all around the top, securing the opening you used to turn it right side out.
Done!
Push up the head rest, attach the bag and tighten in place and then lower the head rest again. Good to go!
