Travel: Great St. Mary’s
Great St. Mary’s is a church that you can climb to the top of – really! The tower is narrow, and it’s about 123 steps up. Only one-way traffic is allowed – so be sure to give yourself a bit of time if you’re in a rush, since you might have to wait to descend.
When we attended, it was a windy day, yet the sky was clear, and you could get a great sense of the city. Okay, let’s check out some photos.
Great St. Mary’s
First up, the entry and the history.
Next, the tiny staircase. The signs are serious, watch your head! Plus, if you need to take your time going up the stairs, know there are two spots where you can sort of ‘pull over’ and take a break without holding up the group.
Up next, the view from the top!
The view is quite special, especially on a bright and sunny day. Seeing the market, the tourists in town for the long weekend, and the hustle and bustle of the city centre is a fun experience. Plus, seeing it from afar at the top of Great St. Mary’s is a lot of fun.
Once you’re done with your trek to the top, be sure to check out the main church, although you can’t take a picture of everything. I had to ask just to be sure what I could snap a photo of.
Well, there you have it, a little peek into our experience at Great St. Mary’s church.
What’s your favourite way to see a city? Through food, through heights like this one, or through a coffee shop and people watching? I could go for all three, any day! Travelling is flat out, so much fun.
Happy travelling, and we hope to see you again soon.
Bye for now.
