Tokyo Ramen Street

First up, ramen. You’ll need cash and a bit of patience as you check out the ramen vending machine. We hit up Soranoiro Nippon in Tokyo Ramen Street. It’s in Tokyo Station. Below in orange (B1) are all the ramen places – so many!

First, when you find a map, be sure to check it out so you know where you’re going. We found it quite quickly, but know that Google Maps won’t help you much in the train station.

Okay, time for the vending machine (they have GF ramen – made in a totally separate kitchen). Oh, and you need cash – only cash or you can use your ic card, which is used for train fair.

I got the GF – bottom row, centre. Bryce got the special soy sauce, top row, far left. Once you pay and select what you want, you’ll get these little tickets. Keep them and someone will show you to your seat.

Then you sit back and wait for the hot bowl of goodness.

Here are a few photos of Tokyo Ramen Street, just to give you an idea of what to expect. Oh, and Soranoiro is so good we ate here twice. The second time as we were leaving for Kyoto, it was perfect since we took the train!

And yes, many places will have a line – so be prepared to wait.

We also had snacks and coffee from Starbucks and Family Mart. Oh, and did you know that Starbucks in Japan has GF banana muffins? The perfect snack if in need of something quickly.

We also stopped and had lunch and snacks at a gourmet grocery store – Bio-Ral.

As for other restaurants, here are some others – one, tex-mex, another Indian (the best we’ve had!), and another traditional Japanese food yet all 100% gluten free.

Here’s Gluten Free T’s Kitchen – we had the fried chicken and okonomyiyaki. Both were delicious.

The best food, tied with the ramen, was the palak paneer at Downtown B’s Indian Kitchen.

I think it helped that the owner is a racing fan!

Last, I’ll share with you Frijoles. Usually when we travel I like to find one place (even a McDonal’s, like in Hong Kong) that’s something familiar just in case we need a go-to. Well, on our first night we ate at Frijoles since we had a long day of travelling and were looking for something filling and easily digestible. A burrito and a bowl fit the bill.

Well, there you have it – Tokyo Eats! Happy travelling…and of course, eating!
