So…you may have come across this on Pinterest. Sharpie and dishes – bake and you have permanent design! The fun thing is, it actually works on black dishes with silver Sharpies, or even purple Sharpie on white. Try it! Okay, let’s get started.

What You Need

oven safe dish
contrasting sharpie
oven
oven mitts
cooling rack

To start, preheat your oven to 350. Wash your dish and ensure it’s completely dry. You can even use a bit of rubbing alcohol on the spot you’re going to write on. This will make sure there are no oils which will contaminate your image. Let the alcohol completely dry off first, though. Then, carefully write what you want to say, or draw it if it’s abstract. Let the Sharpie dry for about 5 minutes. Next, bake in the oven for 20-25 minutes.

Once it’s baked, pull out with the oven mitts and place on the cooling rack for about 2 hours.

Little trick – if you make a mistake, Windex takes the Sharpie off (that is, before you bake it…once baked, it’s on there for good – and dishwasher safe!) *Little update – after about 2 years my Sharpie came off of my dish fully. I think it’s because we soaked the dish a few times, so don’t do that. Perhaps just hand wash it without soaking.
